About the Artist: Mary Waltham was born and educated in England and grew up on a farm in a small village in Dorset, a rural county immortalized by Thomas Hardy's novels and poetry. Her work is a continuum of this early experience and is rooted in the natural environment. She explores the countryside from her own deep familiarity with and knowledge of places and processes. Mary's practice is often driven by walking in areas close to home in the US and the UK. Walking is a meditation that enables Mary to immerse herself in place and then to work imaginatively in her art practice.
