Old Black Point, Porch by Katharine Morrill depictsan exterior/interior painting of my grandmother's porch in CT, focusing on the outdoor furniture and then in through the window into the kitchen. This acrylic painting will look comforting in any room of your home or office. Through drawing, painting, collage and calligraphic printing, I navigate the interior and exterior spaces of my childhood home. The idea of home is the source for my inspiration. Themes of fragility, place and intimacy inspire and investigate representations of home. From memory, I move through personal domestic spaces with the notion of seeing my home as one image that simultaneously has isolated moments. I unfold the architectural planes through an additive and reductive process. This parallels the process and intention. I break the picture plane and collapse the interior and exterior spaces; which essentially illustrate both inside and outside. These spaces are meaningful as they represent the place where we became who we are. For a child, their home is their universe; it represents youth, emergence, and identity.
