Peacock Butterfly by Sara Davies is a mixed media 6" x 4" painting.  Sara used watercolour paint and pencil on paper.
Sara was sitting in her garden this spring, when she saw a butterfly suddenly flutter down onto her garden path to spread its wings. Sara carefully approached it and saw it was a Peacock Butterfly species, with a deep rusty colour and large white rings on its wings.
Sara sketched the butterfly on paper first before adding the blended shades of brown, black and white to achieve the most accurate colours. Sara especially likes the finer details and markings on the wings, and she believes these colours really hold the viewer's eye against the shadows on the flagstone beneath the insect.
