What started out as a creative display for Stephanie Schafer’s antique hats turned into an entire collection.  After spending years of becoming self-aware of her emotions and taking ownership of the way that she felt, the collection Under My Skin- The Mental Self was formed. Each piece is Stephanie’s best representation of an emotion that she has had or experienced in some form of her life.  Pulling back the skin showing the deepest of emotions on the outside, no hidden truths. So much time was spent being insecure with the way that she felt.  

“Why was that?  Why was I so afraid of being ok with those feelings?  Was it judgement?”

“After years of studying myself and my reactions, I took that experience and made a format to how each piece was to be created. Starting with the long drawn out process of flipping through magazines to find details. Each texture or color would be a symbol of the piece I am creating. The rock representing the rough hard times, or sheer curtains when I felt free and weightless and so on. This process takes a couple of weeks then I start to build layers. Layer overlapping layer like the layers we have inside, my creation starts to form. Always starting with the face, this is how I see myself. The details here are so important because the face never lies. This is my truth that I want to show. Continuing to the back of the head, this is how others see me. I always end at the neck. The neck is just as important to me, it’s what helps me keep my head up.  Art needs to mean something just like anything we do. There must be a purpose behind the color, behind the brush stroke, behind the subject. I want to feel a relatable moment when I see art and when I create it. That is how I get to know the artist and my audience.”

If you choose to return the art, repackage it in its original box and contact us at service@cagonline.co or (844) 210-7722. We will then issue you a prepaid FedEx or UPS shipping label to affix to the box and return. Items must be shipped backed within seven days of receiving the order. If you live outside of the United States, please see below for the return procedure. Art that is returned damaged will not be refunded. Photographs and limited edition prints that are returned wrinkled, dented, or smudged due to mishandling will incur a handling fee based on the size of the piece. Outside the United States, How To Return a Purchase? If you are not completely satisfied; you can return your art within seven days. Please save the original packaging when you receive the art. If you choose to return the art, repackage it in its original box and contact us at service@cagonline.co or (844) 210-7722. We will provide you with the return shipping address so that you can ship the artwork with the carrier of your choosing. You are responsible for the cost of return shipping and any customs and brokerage fees charged upon return. Items must be shipped within seven days of receiving the order. Receipt of a Damaged Piece of Art? We package all artwork in custom built art boxes to insure safe delivery, so receiving damaged art is a rare occurrence. If you receive a damaged piece of art, contact us within 24 hours at service@cagonline.co or (844) 210-7722. Please take a picture as well as save the box and all packaging material; we must have these items in order to process the claim.
