Judith Hodge’s work is influenced by the post-impressionists, the Canadian Group of Seven and American Abstract Expressionists. Her style is impasto, vibrant and somewhat abstracted.
“I stay open to the changing way I look at my place in the world and record the changes in my perceptions as they come up - as I listen to and interact with others in my life. I always want to reveal "the hand of the artist" in my work and hope to share, at the very least a feeling of inclusion, intimacy and energy with anyone who honors my work with a look, a moment, a pause as they go about their day.”
“I feel the constant movement that seethes under stillness. I try to capture a moment, the way it feels to be there, to walk right in. The way the air moves around, the trees, the rocks, the water - touches my skin, messes my hair. These paintings are my prayers. My work includes allegory, abstraction and movement, and I am a deep admirer of The Canadian Group of Seven.”
