Netta Ganor was born in Jerusalem, Israel, and grew up as a very artistic girl. When she was 15, her life was completely turned upside down as she became paralyzed from the neck down within less than one hour due to a very rare syndrome called Acute Transverse Myelitis (also known as spinal cord stroke) - a neurological phenomenon with no known cure or cause. During a long period in a rehabilitation hospital, Netta taught herself how to paint with her mouth, which was by itself a great accomplishment. It is through lots of practice and hard work that Netta realized she could do anything; her body may be limited, but what she can do and achieve is limited only by her mind. Today Netta is a proud mother, accomplished painter, author and illustrator of two children’s books, has a full-time job in the High Tech industry and an inspirational speaker and promoter of awareness to disabled people.
“The art of painting is like a two-dimensional hologram in an object, on which the additional dimensions of the artist's personality and the ideas they express are projected. The ideas expressed in my paintings, which sometimes surprise people due to my physical disability, is that life is beautiful. I paint in a way that captures the colorful, optimistic, perhaps a little childish and naive side of reality. Art that makes people smile. My art is ranging from figures and portraits to nature, animals and landscapes I find in photos taken for me by friends and relatives. It combines precision, attention to detail and vibrant motives. On a technical level my paintings are rather small due to my limited range of motion, but that does not prevent me from portraying miniature, intricate details in my paintings. I work primarily in acrylics and often employ bold colors in a way that captures the colorful, optimistic side of reality in a naïve-romantic-realistic manner. I see my art as a medium that allows me tremendous freedom to be creative and to convey a message to the world, that regardless of my disability I am "high on life", full of hope and optimism and always see the bright side of things. I want to inspire people to believe that everything is possible if you put your heart and mind to it.”
